THE WALKMEN
A Hundred Miles Off
I'm late in reviewing this, meaning
that everyone who's heard anyhting about this cd has already heard
that Hamilton Leithauser sounds like Dylan on this record, and it's
unmistakably evident only seconds into opener, "Louisiana."
Now that I've got the Dylan thing out of the way, I can go head
and say that this is their third really good record. Like all Walkmen
albums, there is an slight imbalance between good songs and really
great ones, but it doesn't bother me in the least bit, with the
Walkmen traveling into new territory with no fear. It's exactly
that fearlessness that helps them pull off such songs as "All
The Hands And The Cook," and the incredibly fast moving "This
Job is Killing Me," which sounds a bit like Bad Religion or
the Descendents.
standout tracks: "Emma, Get Me a Lemon"
and "Brandy Alexander" |
