Check
out this Pitchfork article about the newest Kidz
Bop cd. (read
it here).
How
can I even begin to speak about this? By now,
if you have had any contact with the outside world,
you've heard a Kidz Bop song. You probably at
least remember the Kidz Bop version of "Who
Let the Dogs Out." They're already on Kidz
Bop 9, and that means a whole new bunch of popular
songs will be hillariously destroyed, including
2 Weezer songs and The Gorillaz "Feel Good
inc." Who thought that this would be a good
idea? Yeah, the songs are funny to 20-something
adults that take it all in as some hillarious
joke, but let's delve deeper into this.
First of all, while not many of the Kidz Bopped
bands are credible (Hillary Duff, Lifehouse),
some of them are (Modest Mouse, The Gorillaz).
How can you let them turn your songs into this
crap? Are you only looking at this for its humor,
or do you seriously believe that this is a good
idea? I understand that you guys might think that
kids should be listening to good music, and something
less mindless than The Wiggles, but is "Rich
Girl" really appropriate for the advancement
of our children. Yeah it may be fun for us, but
that song was not written for the little ones.
Eventually we're going to see Kidz Bop cover Snoop
Dog, and if I have hear a small child walking
around singing "Now just throw your hands
in the motha' fuckin' air, and wave tha motha
fuckers like you just don't care," I will
hang my head in shame. Laugh it up. It is a hillarious
scene. A little white girl, unknowingly singing
"shit that I drop cuz ya know it don't stop.
Mr. One Eight Seven on a motherfuckin cop. Tic
toc never the glock just some nuts and a cock."
Once
again Canada is coming through to help save music,
this time their coming in to save children's music.
Canada's Paper Bag records is going to be releasing
See You on the Moon!: Songs for Kids of All
Ages, with actually bands creating songs
(or covering songs) specifically for children,
rather than letting their more adult songs be
Kidz-Boppified. Broken Social Scene will be covering
Puff the Magic Dragon for the album.
Yeah, it's a bout pot, but the little ones don't
know that. Sufjan Stevens, and Kid Koala will
also have tracks featured on the cd.
Let's
pray that this saves children's music and kills
off the Kidz Bop enterprise once and for all,
or the future will look even sadder than it already
does.
