Through her work as the lead vocalist for Metric, and as one of the 3 female voices of Broken Social Scene, Emily Haines has become a leading feminine force in the indie rock world. Her voice is always a pleasure on everything she does, but Knives Don't Have Your Back is kind of boring, consisting of moody, depressing simple piano ballads. While Haines' voice is as seductive as ever, it's not enough to make this album very memorable.
