Pieces of People we love
The Rapture are back
with more cowbell than ever. Pieces of People We Love is
an immediate dance party with the opening track, "Don Gon Do
it" setting the tone for the entire album. On their debut,
Echoes and their earlier EPs, singer Luke Jenner's voice
was highly abrasive—a love-it or hate-it quality, but memorable.
There are a few moments at which his voice shows signs of this abrasiveness
on Pieces of People We Love, but for the most part, we
instead here a more pleasant, polished vocals. The Talking Heads
influence now seems to override the Gang of Four influence that
was so heavy on earlier Rapture releases. While tracks like "Don
Gon Do It" and "Live in Sunshine" recall what made
Echoes a defining moment in 21st century rock, the majority of songs
that make up Pieces of People We Love are a disapointment in relation
to the band's brilliant past work.
