Records
Over the last
few years, Belle & Sebastian have quietly become one of the
great indie pop bands in the world. They have really found their
sound, and over the last few albums they have been able to expand
upon it adding more influences, mostly of the sunny-sounding '60's
pop variety. While Dear Catastrophe Waitress was a major
shift for their sound, towards an even poppier format, The Life
Pursuit takes what they're learned from previous releases and
spreads their influences even further. The influence Zombies of
the Zombies is really all over this record, especially on songs
like "Act of the Apostle pt. 1" and "Dress Up In
You," while "The Blues are Still Blue" ends up sounding
like a T-Rex classic. While the album is full of great songs, "Sukie
in the Graveyard" and "For the Pirce of a Cup of Tea"
stand out as major pop gems that could go down as classics. This
album should make many critics end of the year top ten lists in
2006. If it doesn't, it's a real shame.
