The Waylons
The Waylons don't sound
like a NYC/Brooklyn band. Their sound does not come from '80s post-punk,
and the prefix of art will not be used in classifying them (example:
"art-punk." Instead, their sound is one that implies a
midwestern lifestyle. It's that relaxed sunshine folk tinged pop
rock that does it, and they do it so well. Teenage Fanclub comes
to mind, while there's also British Invasion inspired pop, and other
moments that will draw comparisons to early Wilco ("Alarms")
and even Simon & Garfunkle ("Stunning"). And while
they insist that their not a country band, it's that stripped down
country element that makes their music so desirable. This album
probably won't generate a huge buzz because it's not the hip sound,
but it most certainly should.
